Presentation

The 2010 FINMA position paper on legal risk and the decision of the Swiss Federal Council to adopt the new global standard for the automatic exchange of banking information in tax matters are profoundly shaping the client advisors’ activity, who need to gain new competences to deal with the compliance and taxation requirements of the clients’ Countries of residence they serve. At the same time, if this new transparency allows Swiss client advisors to directly address clients in foreign markets, it also leads them to compete directly with domestic advisors in their own arena. Thus, to be successful, an in-depth understanding of the domestic situation of clients is needed.

In response to these new competitive market requirements, the Centro di Studi Bancari offers a training program addressing the above key issues centered on a client advisor’s cross-border business with Germany.
The program starts with the foundation module common to all markets, followed by the market-specific part. The foundation module is proposed in the form of self-study and addresses the legal and taxation principles that apply to all jurisdictions. The pre-reading material will be made available in English, French, Italian and German. The classroom phase then starts with the Specialization sessions, intended to endow the participant with the necessary knowledge of the regulation and taxation issues of Germany. The classroom phase is followed by a multiple choice exam, encompassing the topics addressed in the online module too. After passing this exam, the participant receives the certification issued by the Centro di Studi Bancari.
In order to maintain the certification, which in the previous editions has been jointly offered with Swiss Finance Institute, alumni will have to attend refresher sessions (on average once a year) for an in-depth review of the major law and tax changes relevant for the German market.

The course is recognized as a recertification measure for renewing the Swiss Association for Quality (SAQ) certificates for banking relationship managers (behavioral skills): Swiss Cross-Border Wealth Management for Client Advisors - Market Germany

- has mastered the main German regulatory framework, especially about market access and rules of conduct, to be able to continue building a trusted relationship with German clients
- is able to improve after-tax investment performance by taking into account taxation issues in the cross-border financial relationship
- knows how to identify selected business opportunities and how to use them to expand the relationship with his or her client
